No Surprises Act Quiz: Am I Protected From This Bill?

Federal balance billing protections cover more than most people realize — but they have real, specific gaps (ground ambulances being the biggest one). Answer a few questions about your situation to check where it likely stands.

Frequently asked

Does the No Surprises Act cover ground ambulance bills?

No. Ground ambulance transport is not covered by the federal law — a well-known gap. Some states have their own ground ambulance balance billing protections for fully insured plans, so it's worth checking your state's rules separately.

Can I waive my No Surprises Act protections?

For certain non-emergency services where you knowingly choose an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility, a valid written notice-and-consent form signed in advance can waive protections for that specific provider. Waivers are never allowed for emergency services, ancillary specialists you didn't personally choose, or air ambulance services.

Bill and EOB don't match either?

EOBCheck's free tool reconciles your full bill against your insurance EOB and drafts a general dispute letter — separate from the notice above.
