About EOBCheck
What EOBCheck does
- Compares the amount a provider bill says you owe against the patient responsibility shown on your EOB
- Flags the result โ consistent, minor variance, or unexplained variance worth disputing
- Checks a Good Faith Estimate against the federal $400 dispute threshold
- Generates an editable, downloadable dispute letter personalized to your numbers
- On paid tiers: reads a photo or PDF of your bill/EOB entirely in your browser to suggest amounts, and reconciles multiple providers together
What EOBCheck does not do
- Does not provide legal, financial, or medical advice
- Is not a law firm, patient advocate service, or insurance company
- Does not access your insurer's or provider's systems
- Does not contact providers or insurers on your behalf
- Does not guarantee any bill will be reduced or any dispute will succeed
How calculations work
The core comparison is straightforward: the amount your bill says you owe, minus the patient responsibility shown on your EOB. See our full Methodology page for the exact math, thresholds, and known limitations.
Privacy model
The free tool runs entirely in your browser. Numbers you enter are never sent to a server. Paid-tier document uploads are processed client-side too (PDF text extraction and image OCR both run locally via WebAssembly) โ the file itself is never uploaded anywhere. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Editorial policy
Articles and reference pages are written by the EOBCheck Editorial Team, cite primary sources (CMS, HHS) where applicable, and are dated with a "last reviewed" note. Content is updated when the underlying rules it describes change materially.
